Read the letter to stuck-at-home students written by Matt de la Pena, an award winning and best-selling author.
He uses a line from one of his books to start a prompt: '“Sometimes when you’re surrounded by dirt, you’re a better witness for what’s beautiful.'” Use this line or read the entire letter at the link above to inspire a journal entry. Post here and consider sending it in to de la Pena himself! His contact information is listed in his letter. Happy Writing!

From now on, if there is anything you are working on that you would like to post, please share it here. It can be something simple as a journal entry or a more complicated, like a part of your short story. Feel free to write non-fiction as well: thoughts on politics, memoirs, editorials, etc. Please read your classmates' entries and give your thoughts and feedback!
Use the comment link to post at least one paragraph from this week's response. Feel free to read others' ideas and comment on their ideas as well. Just be clear who you are responding to in your comments.
Prompt: Pick a random place on the globe, a place of which you have little knowledge. Research some information and images of the place to give you a sense of setting. Now write as if you are a travel journalist describing a unique experience you just had on your trip to this place. Think about your audience and angle the story to either excite or deter them from traveling to this location. |
