Online Learning:
Starting the week of April 20th, our online learning will move to Schoology. Please use cvs.schoology.com to log on. Instructions for log in and the app can be found at this link. Remember engaging in this learning is the way to earn credit for this semester.
I will continue to communicate through email so please check your school emails on Office 365!
Week of 4/13:
Spring Break 4/6-4/10:
Week of 3/30:
1. Check out our class Flipgrid! Then record a video of a book talk on your independent reading book. Use the link or see below.
2. Spend about an hour on Khan Academy. Focus on SAT Language & Writing multiple choice. Challenge yourself to level up in all 3 of the Writing and Language categories!
3. Continue independent reading (25-50 pages a week is a good start). If you need new book suggestions, check out your classmates' videos on Flipgrid.
4. Work on adding to your independent reading notes in your notebook. What theories can you start to develop about your book? Think about characters, themes, setting, plot structure, symbolism, author's craft, etc. We will use these in future posts.
5. Add to our blog, if you haven't yet. If you did respond last week, check out others' sources and reply with your insights. Reply to one classmate by the end of the week.
I will continue to communicate through email so please check your school emails on Office 365!
Week of 4/13:
- Continue or resume your independent reading. Try improving on your page count this week. If you've been reading 25 pages a week, see if you can read 30 or more pages. Planning time to read can help you achieve this new goal.
- Check out our class Flipgrid! Click the link or scroll down the page. Watch my video for this week and respond either with a video or on the class blog.
- Even though you may not be taking the SAT this school year, it looks like you will have that chance sometime this fall. Therefore, work on improving 5 of your grammar skills in Khan Academy on the SAT page.
- Check your school email later this week regarding the new guidelines for online learning and grading. Respond accordingly. If you cannot access your school email, please email me from an email account that works for you.
Spring Break 4/6-4/10:
- Find a new way to enjoy your time away from school! Learn a new card game, ride a bike, cook something delicious, send a letter, play an instrument (anyone still have a recorder?), find a way to help someone close to you...the possibilities are endless!
- Continue reading and catch up on any activities from the past two weeks that you haven't finished yet.
- Check both this site and your school email for updates next week!

Extended Spring Break 2020 Suggested Work (Recommended):
Week of 3/23
1. Spend about an hour on Khan Academy. Focus on SAT Reading. Pick passages that give you room for growth. For example, if you are at level 3 in literature and history, but only at a level 2 in science and social science, then spend the hour practicing reading science and social science passages. https://www.khanacademy.org/mission/sat/practice/reading-and-writing
2. Keep reading! If you need another book there are some options available online. One free way is to use download Libby. Try to read at least 25 pages independently.
3. Research unbiased sources on COVID-19. There are many narratives and conflicting ideas in the news. Trying to understand the virus and all of the politics surrounding it is confusing. I personally have questions that I want answered. Add any beneficial sources to our BLOG PAGE. Then research more using sites that others have posted.
4. Go to the BLOG page to see my video and respond. It would be great to see your faces!
Overall goals for break:
1. Log 3 hours working on English Reading and Writing for the SAT on Khan Academy
2. Read 100 pages of your independent reading book
3. Take a page of notes on your independent reading. Jot ideas, include at least one theory, and start expanding your understanding of that theory.
